24-Hour and Live-In Care

When someone can no longer be alone — and moving them is not the answer.

Two different arrangements

24-hour care means caregivers working in shifts so that someone is awake and available at all times. This is what you need when nights are genuinely unsafe — wandering, frequent bathroom trips, a real fall risk in the dark.

Live-in care means a caregiver who lives in the home, with a private place to sleep and normal rest hours. This suits someone who needs presence and help throughout the day but generally sleeps through the night.

The right choice depends almost entirely on what the nights look like. That is the first thing we ask about.

Compared with a facility

Families usually consider this at the moment a facility is being discussed. Worth knowing before that decision: round-the-clock care at home keeps the person in their own house, with their own bed, their own routine and their own neighborhood — and for people with dementia, the disruption of a move is itself a serious event.

Starting quickly

Most 24-hour cases begin as an emergency — a fall, a hospitalization, a spouse who can no longer manage. Call us as soon as you know it is coming, ideally before the discharge rather than after. Post-hospital care →
