Why coverage out here is so thin
It is not that families in Monroe County need less help. It is the math. An agency built around four-hour visits needs its caregivers to hit three or four houses a day, and out here the houses are twenty minutes apart. Past Bartonsville the model simply stops working, so agencies stop answering.
We do it differently, and it is not charity — it is arithmetic. We take cases of twenty hours a week and up and assign one caregiver to one family. One house, one drive, a real day's work. That is what makes it possible to serve Tobyhanna and Mount Pocono the same way we serve downtown Stroudsburg.
What we do
Bathing, grooming and dressing. Mobility help and fall prevention. Medication reminders. Meals, laundry and light housekeeping. Groceries, errands, and rides to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Pocono and the practices along Route 611.
Overnight and live-in care, too. In a rural county where the nearest relative may be an hour away and the nearest facility further, having someone in the house overnight is often the difference between staying home and not.
Winter is a real factor here
A Pocono winter turns an ordinary week into a hard one: a driveway nobody has cleared, an appointment that cannot be missed, three days without seeing another person. Families who wait until January to arrange care usually find out the hard way that January is the worst month to start looking.

If the person needing care is between 18 and 59 with a physical disability, ask about Act 150 and the OBRA waiver before assuming you are private pay. Those two are for that age group specifically, and most families are never told they exist.
And if a family member is already doing the caring: under both programs we may be able to hire them and pay them for it. Not a spouse, legal guardian or power of attorney — but an adult child, parent, sibling, niece, nephew, friend or neighbour. How that works →
