Personal Care at Home

The hands-on help that decides whether someone can stay in their own house.

What personal care actually covers

  • Bathing and showering — the task families worry about most, and the one where falls happen
  • Grooming and dressing — hair, shaving, oral care, getting dressed without a struggle
  • Mobility and transfers — bed to chair, chair to bathroom, up and down stairs
  • Fall prevention — clearing the paths people actually walk, and being there for the trips that matter
  • Toileting and incontinence care — handled matter-of-factly, without making anyone feel small
  • Medication reminders — we remind and observe; we do not administer
  • Feeding assistance and help with prescribed exercises

Dignity is the whole job

A person who spent sixty years bathing themselves does not want help bathing. The difference between a caregiver who makes that bearable and one who does not is not technique — it is familiarity. Someone who has done it fifty times before, in this bathroom, with this person.

That is the practical argument for keeping one caregiver on a case instead of rotating whoever is free. It is also why we build schedules caregivers will stay in.

A note on what we do not do. We are a home care agency, not a home health agency. Our caregivers do not give injections, change sterile dressings or provide skilled nursing. If that is what is needed, tell us and we will point you to the right kind of provider.
