Companion Care and Homemaking
For someone who is managing, mostly — but should not be doing it alone.
What a companion caregiver does
- Meal planning and cooking — real meals, eaten with someone rather than alone
- Light housekeeping — dishes, laundry, changing linens, keeping the place livable
- Groceries and errands — with them when they want to come, for them when they do not
- Transportation — appointments, the pharmacy, church, the barber
- Company — conversation, cards, a walk, the television on with someone else in the room
The part families underestimate
Isolation is not just sad, it is medical. People who go days without speaking to anyone eat less, move less, and slide faster. Families notice the weight loss and the confusion long before they connect it to the fact that nobody has been in the house since Sunday.
Companion care is often what a family should have started a year before they call us.
When companion care is not enough
If bathing, dressing or getting to the bathroom has become difficult, that is personal care, and it is a different level of help. Many families start with companion care and add hands-on care as needs change. Same caregiver, expanded role.
